Hanamub Responds to Pirates Interest

AmaZulu left-back Riaan Hanamub has responded to rumours linking him with a move to Orlando Pirates, saying it is his dream to play for a big club in the country.

Hanamub, who has been consistent for Usuthu since he joined them from Chippa United at the start of last term, was heavily linked with a move to Orlando Pirates during the off-season and there were rumours that there might be a player exchange between the two clubs.

But Usuthu president Sandile Zungu shot down those talks, saying Hanamub was going nowhere.

The move did not materialise but the Namibian international has kept on playing well for Usuthu this season, having featured in all five matches.

He admitted that it is good there is noise out there about interested teams, which means he is doing well before revealing he harbours ambition of turning up for a big side in future.

“It’s every player’s dream to play for one of the biggest clubs in the country,” Hanamub told iDiski Times when asked about the links to Pirates.

“But if it doesn’t happen, AmaZulu is also a big brand and I’m really happy to be here and I’m always willing to give my best.”

When asked about talks with Pirates, Hanamub remained coy to give much away.

“I don’t know [if] I should indulge in that because it’s not my space,” he replied.

“I’m here now and I’m fully committed to the team, and to keep working hard. You never know what God’s plans are and I always trust in God’s plans.

“I don’t want to put myself in situations where I would lose my focus.”

Hanamub, just like his national team captain Peter Shalulile, has also been doing well for his country Namibia, who qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations, finishing second in Group C that had last year’s hosts Cameroon, Burundi and Kenya, although the latter did not play as they were banned by FIFA.

Namibia, impressively, was the only nation to have qualified for the AFCON finals next year without playing a match at home, as they were barred by CAF since they don’t have suitable venues, playing their two home fixtures in South Africa.

During the FIFA international break, the 28-year-old featured in the friendly match against Bafana Bafana at Orlando Stadium that ended in a goalless draw on Saturday.
