Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt feels Kaizer Chiefs can go all the way this season and win the Betway Premiership.
Chiefs have had a good run of results and find themselves in the league title race, something they haven’t done since the 2019/20 season under Ernst Middendorp.
Amakhosi find themselves in third position with 30 points after 15 matches, just two points behind league leaders Orlando Pirates and the former Amakhosi mentor believes his former side stands a chance at the league title shot.
“I think the real truth of the matter is, you do find players get a little bit more aroused because they know it’s going to be an atmosphere there,” Hunt told the media.
“You know what I mean? If you were playing with all due respect, a team in low off the league, we don’t really get many people, at least a different vibe, totally together, if you haven’t played in those type of games. So being a cup game obviously gives it a little bit more as well, because it’s really just one chance.
“But I don’t prepare any differently. There’s no different in preparation, in thought about how, what we try and do, obviously, we need to look at, we have looked at opposition, what we think, how we and try and set ourselves up to be, let them try and hopefully, try and worry a little bit more about us.
“But we certainly need to play, and don’t play with the fear of what they can bring. And they are a good side. They certainly, as I said, they’re much more settled now.
“They’re much more free flowing. And once you won a few games like they’ve won, it gives a little bit of. You get a little bit of confidence back in the team, which they have done. And the league position doesn’t lie.
“I always say, the league position doesn’t lie. The cups can sometimes cloud you. You know, in sometimes you can have success in cups, but your league position is where it doesn’t lie.
“I always say, and they’re doing very well. They can win the league this year.”
