Gavin Hunt has commended Mamelodi Sundowns for the way the club has evolved and insisted there is a huge gap between the Masandawana and his side, in particular when it comes to the wages.
SuperSport United lost the Tshwane derby 1-0 on Monday, with Downs going 16 points clear of Hunt’s third-placed side and 14 ahead of second-placed Richards Bay.
Hunt insisted Sundowns cannot be judged on the DStv Premiership title because they are too far ahead of the rest of the league, but they must judged based on their success in Africa.
“Let’s be honest, they should be judged on the Champions League,” he said after the match.
“They should be in the semi-final or final every year. That’s how you should judge them because the gap is so much bigger than everybody in South Africa.
“It’s unfortunate but it is the way of the game has gone, it is what it is.”
Hunt also praised Sundowns for the way the club has evolved, but insisted their is a huge gap in salaries between his side and the current log leaders.
“Sundowns are fantastic, they’ve got a really good team, a good coaches, good club – the club has gone to another level, fantastic,” he added.
“You’ve got to commend them, they put their money where their mouth is and then go for it and it’s fantastic.
“For us, you’re going to judge it on where we are and what we got. I mean we’ve had players out there earning… wouldn’t want to tell you what they earn, some of them.
“Their kit man earns more than us.”
SuperSport will be back in action on Sunday when they face second-placed Richards Bay at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
