SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt sounded not happy at how Bradley Cross decided to leave his club, who he said arrived at them not in the best of shape.
The former Newcastle United defender was training with SuperSport United after returning to South Africa after four years in Europe last month.
The former Black Aces and Bidvest Wits youth player moved to Germany in 2018 where he played for FC Schalke 04’s youth team before joining Newcastle United in England where he played in and captained the U23 team.
However, he was a free agent in July when his contract with the Premier League side expired.
“Bradley Cross, I mean it’s a long story,” said Hunt.
“I’m not very happy what happened but it is what it is and these things happen in football. But when he came, he was out of condition. We got him better and next thing he left and that’s football.”
When pressed, if he wanted to sign the player Hunt insisted he wasn’t in a condition to be fully assessed and left too soon.
“Not to say I wanted to sign him. He needed to get back into his condition first, so he was way out of condition and we got him fitter and obviously he left,” Hunt elaborated.
Based on Hunt’s take, it sounds like SuperSport were somewhat used by Cross, who then appeared at Naturena to train with Kaizer Chiefs, as reported by iDiski Times.
However, according to reports, Chiefs have also sent him packing as they have decided not to sign him.
Meanwhile, Hunt confirmed that Senegalese striker Serigne Mamour Niang, the younger brother of former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Mame Niang, is with the club.
Niang, 23, has been training with Matsantsantsa for some time and was part of the team in Durban for a mini-preseason.
The Tshwane giants will resume their 2022/23 campaign against Marumo Gallants at Lucas Moripe Stadium on 30 December 2022.
They are sitting in third place on the DStv Premiership log with 21 points, seven behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
