‘I Once Recommended Kanu To Chiefs’

AmaZulu FC co-coach Arthur Zwane says working with Vusumuzi Vilakazi is something that was meant to be as he once recommended him during his time at Kaizer Chiefs.

The two were roped in to steer the Usuthu first team following a disappointing start to the 2024/25 season under now departed Spanish coach Pablo Franco Martin. AmaZulu lost their opening three league games leaving club management to promote Kanu from the development ranks and bring in the former Chiefs coach to partner with him at the helm.

‘10111’ spoke to iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu in edition 177 of the newspaper, revealing that he recommended ‘Kanu’ who was with Golden Arrows at the time to join him in the Chiefs development side.

Zwane said he has always seen potential in Vilakazi and even though he didn’t get his wish at the time, he is grateful that their paths have crossed.

“To be quite honest, I once recommended Coach Kanu to come and work with me at Kaizer Chiefs when I was still with the reserve team,” Zwane told iDiski Times.

“I could see the potential, the great job that he was doing for Golden Arrows that time, especially in development structures. So, that time I think we were looking for development coaches but unfortunately, that did not materialise.

“But I was always looking forward to working with him one day. And it has happened that I’m here today working with him. So, I’d say God answered my prayers.”
