‘If You Want To Win Cups, Come Here’

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has dished out some humble pie to naysayers who doubted them at the beginning of the season, and stated that if anyone wants to win trophies, they should join Sundowns.

On Wednesday evening, Sundowns wrapped up their eighth league title in style, beating Chippa United 3-0 at the packed Buffalo City Stadium in Eastern Cape to reach a milestone of 100 goals scored in one season across all competitions and became the first Premier Soccer League side to do so.

After Rulani Mokwena left at the beginning of the season, and then Manqoba Mngqithi shortly after, there were doubts that the changing of coaches might cause instability at the club, and that might give a team like Orlando Pirates an opportunity to pounce and possibly win the league title.

During their title celebrations after the Chippa game, Williams told SuperSport TV presenter Lerato Phago that people doubted them at the beginning of the season, and today they are celebrating their eighth league title.

“So proud, happy, what a moment for the club, for the players as well, even for the supporters, amazing,” he said.

“So many people doubted us, but I said at the beginning of the season on the ‘World Of Champions’, I said good luck to them to think it’s not gonna be our season. I know and I see on a day-to-day basis the effort and desire that we put in and the sacrifices that we make as well.

“I am just proud to be part of this amazing team, if you want to win the league and cups, come here, that’s the word of the day, if you want to win cups, come here.”
