‘I’m Sure There Will Be Offers For Him’

Stellenbosch FC CEO Rob Benadie has praised the rapid rise of midfielder Mthetheleli Mthiyane, who joined the club at the start of the season.

The 25-year-old made the step up from the Motsepe Foundation Championship after catching the attention of the Cape Winelands outfit.

Since arriving, he has quickly become a key figure in midfield, making 32 appearances and scoring once across all competitions.

Benadie highlighted Mthiyane’s seamless adaptation and steady progress, while also crediting the club’s scouting and recruitment team.

Although there have been rumours of interest from other clubs, Benadie confirmed no formal offers have been received yet, but saying he believes they will start receiving some in the near future.

He further stated that they are eager to retain the KwaZulu-Natal-born midfielder for the long-term.

“Mthiyane, as you know, he’s in his first season in the PSL with us. We scouted him, we watched him for a while, but that was a very good recruitment,” said Benadie.

“He was part of the [Bafana Bafana] preliminary squad now, wasn’t he? He’s getting some recognition.

“Internally, we believe he’s an excellent player but he can improve a lot. Really, he hasn’t even played 20 PSL games yet, so you can imagine how the boy can still improve.

“So, we would like to see him improve a bit more. There’s no specific offers for him at this stage. But playing in that position, doing so well, I’m sure there will be offers in the future.”
