Is Vilakazi Ready To Be A Regular Starter? Kaze Responds

Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze says Mfundo Vilakazi is not far from being a regular starter for the team, having consistently impressed when he comes off the bench.

Vilakazi made his mark once again by scoring Amakhosi’s second goal in their 2-0 victory over Magesi in the Betway Premiership clash at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

The opening goal came from fellow academy product Wandile Duba, who netted his first of the season after a challenging period with limited game time and inconsistent form.

Kaze noted that while Vilakazi is progressing well, he still needs to improve physically—especially in situations when the team is out of possession—and must also become stronger when holding onto the ball.

“I believe that he’s not far and this season, the games that he started, as well sometimes it’s a technical decision,” said Kaze.

“But he’s a player that always gives everything at training, during games and we want as well to have players that can make an impact.

“And also there is some improvements that he needs to make, especially when the team doesn’t have the ball, to be a little bit physical, to be a little bit stronger on the ball when we have possession.

“It’s a wonderful kid that wants to learn and I’m pretty sure that he’s going to go far.”
