Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson has given an injury update ahead of his side’s final DStv Premiership game of 2023 against Sekhukhnune United.
Amakhosi enter the game on the back of three successive wins and could make it four for the first time this season.
A win would also see them move above bitter rivals Orlando Pirates and a victory by at least two goals would move them into third place, with Johnson saying he’s happy with the squad he has available.
“After beating Richards Bay in our last game, we were fortunate enough to have Christmas off and give the players an opportunity to spend it with their families,” he told the club’s media team.
“We returned to training the following day to prepare for Sekhukhune, and I must give credit to the players; they came in and worked very hard to be in top condition and focused, ready for the game.
“Obviously, TT [Thatayaone] Ditlhokwe is still unavailable. George [Matlou] is still out. Some others are also not with us here but we have a good squad and I am happy with the players that have travelled for the game.”
Johnson also insisted they are well aware of Sekhukhune’s main threats and want to make sure they end the year with another three points.
“We have watched them many times and they have some ex-Kaizer Chiefs players like [Daniel] Cardoso and Kamohelo Mokotjo, who is a very good player, and the Nigerian striker (Chibuike) Ohizu, who they like to play, but we have to make sure we plug every hole and implement our own attacking strategy to try and win,” he added.
“We will go out looking to put in a good performance for our loyal fans here in Polokwane and get the three points. Then we can go home and enjoy the new year, rest a little bit, and then come back to prepare for the second half of the season.”
Chiefs face Sekhukhune at the Peter Mokhaba Stadium at 20:00 on Saturday.
