Johnson Opens Up On Petersen Red Card

Kaizer Chiefs care-taker coach Cavin Johnson has defended goalkeeper Brandon Petersen after he was sent off while on the bench against TS Galaxy.

The incident happened in the dying minutes of their 2-2 draw with the Rockets at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Petersen was seen remonstrating on the sideline over a decision against his side, before referee Cedric Muvhali showed him a straight red card – but Johnson didn’t agree with the decision.

“I also think, our red cards, I can defend Brandon – I did not hear no, no, no foul language. I did not hear anything,” he told media.

“Because in all respect, the foul that he jumps up for, or that the referee blows as offside, that player is the player that plays the ball that’s on the floor. So there is no way my player can be offside.

“No way, no way that player could be offside and he was on par for goal. So you can expect that from your team that’s 10-men down and the foul goes the wrong way.

“That player actually kicks the ball over his head into Mmodi’s space and Pule carries on running and referee goes offside.

“It’s concerning…”
