Johnson Reacts To Soweto Derby Loss

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson has admitted Amakhosi still have a long way to improve after suffering a defeat in Saturday’s Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium.

Evidence Makgopa scored the only goal of the match in his first derby start, being on the end of a superb Pirates combination via Miguel Timm and Bandile Shandu after 20 minutes.

Chiefs tried to turn things around, but they didn’t create much apart from a dangerous header by Edson Castillo in the second half.

Johnson, who lost his first derby as Chiefs coach, admitted his players have many things to improve on.

“A game maybe of two halves, I thought we had the better chances in the first half,” he told SuperSport TV.

“I thought we had a nice chance in the beginning but then they picked up and scored their first chance in the first half.

“We were ok in the second half, we should’ve scored late in the half but not to be. Congratulations to Pirates, they have the bragging rights now.

“But we will come back, the way we want to play and the way some of the players played today, I think we can only get better but we need to be a lot more calmer in a lot of moments in the game.”

The win saw Pirates move above Chiefs in seventh place, with 15 points from 10 games, while Amakhosi dropped down to eighth with 14 points from 12 games.
