Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has listed his preferred end of the season award winners with Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lucas Ribeiro the biggest winner.
Sundowns wrapped up the league title on Wednesday with a game to spare. Their nearest rivals Orlando Pirates have to settle for second place as they cannot surpass the champions even if they win all their remaining league matches.
Ribeiro has shone for Sundowns up front and is currently joint-top goal scorer with Iqraam Rayners on 14 goals, and Khanye says the Brazilian is his Player of the Season with Relebohile Mofokeng coming close.
“Ribeiro and it’s close between him and Mofokeng,” said Khanye on IDiski TV.
“The gap is not that big but Ribeiro is a bit experienced than Mofokeng and he was consistent in many games. It’s only two games, the game he [Mofokeng] played against Kaizer Chiefs and the game against Arrows where I saw the coach asking a lot from the boy by not playing him to his strength, asking him to do more, to defend. But he gave everything.”
The former Kaizer Chiefs winger also named the Pirates winger as his Young Player of the Season.
“If Mofokeng still falls under that category, I think he overpowers everyone,” added Khanye.
“And just to be straight forward I give it to him.”
