Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jnr. has revealed the mandate of Amakhosi coach Stuart Baxter.
The Glamour Boys are currently in third place on the log, just one point behind Royal AM who’ve played two more games and 16 behind Mamelodi Sundowns, who have four matches in hand.
However, the club has been eliminated from the Nedbank Cup and also missed out on the MTN8 this season, meaning Amakhosi faithful will experience another year without a trophy.
Some fans have accused Baxter of focussing too much on results instead of given more young players a chance, leading to Motaung Jnr. being questioned about the coach’s mandate at the club.
“It is very important for a club like Chiefs, you have to come and given our situation, part of the coach’s KPIs are, of course is for us to go out and win every single piece of silverware that we can. That, at a club like Kaizer Chiefs is the standard,” he said during the inaugural KhosiSpaces.
“Within that, there is definitely a process for us to build for the future. Now the challenges, people will say fine, you say we build but what does that mean. Some clubs almost use that just like a bypassing comment but it’s extremely important to understand that we have to build for the future.
“Because if you have a plan longterm that’s how you’ll have proper success.
“His mandate of course, definitely is to do well and to win every piece of silverware that’s on offer. It goes to all the players and all the assistant staff who are there, the backroom staff, all of us. We all know and we can’t shy away from the fact, that’s why we’re here. We know the position we are in now, we’ve seen the cups we couldn’t win this season and we understand that.
“Of course we’re not happy about not winning those trophies.
“From our side, we’ve seen how important our young players have been, carrying us through an immense CAF Champions League last season. It’s not secret for everyone to see we have to build around a core of young and exciting players for the future.”
Chiefs return to action on Saturday when they’ll face Golden Arrows in the DStv Premiership.
