Kaizer Jr Discusses Chiefs’ Targets This Season

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr has discussed the club’s targets this season saying they are looking to do well in the Nedbank Cup and qualify for the CAF inter-club competition.

Amakhosi recently celebrated their 55th year anniversary however the last decade has seen them not win a single trophy much to their supporters’ frustration.

The side didn’t qualify for this year’s MTN8 tournament and got eliminated from the Carling Knockout Cup leaving them with just the league and the Ke Yona Cup to contest for.

Motaung Jr spoke to iDiski Times Senior writer Matshelane Mamabolo in edition 188 of the newspaper and he said the team’s performances so far gives a glimmer of what can still be achieved in the 55th year.

“If you had to ask anybody, they would say ‘winning a trophy’ would measure up to celebrating the legacy of the club,” Motaung told iDiski Times.

“If you look time strides but also implementing the things that are going to take us to the next 55. But we have the Nedbank Cup to play for this season. We also want to be back in Africa next season, and we know what that takes, and where we need to finish with the right respect for our fans this year. And on the field, there’s a glimmer of light because when it comes to attacking play, the team has set the benchmark with most chances created. We are a very offensive force this year.

“There have been a lot of positive strides in meeting what would be required to make this a special year. We know of course the disappointments of not competing in the MTN8 and not progressing further in the Carling Knockout.

“But I think we are very much focused on what this most important part of the season has to offer.”
