Kaizer Chiefs‘ Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr admits that the club is not done with reinforcements on the transfer front, and will also focus on roping in experienced campaigners.
The Glamour Boys have endured a nine-year trophy drought, falling further behind Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. Last season, they failed to win trophies and finished in 10th place, their worst ever at the end of a campaign.
Speaking to the media upon their return from a three-week training camp in Turkey, Motaung Jnr affirmed that Amakhosi are still looking to add more playing personnel to Nasreddine Nabi’s squad having already brought in the trio of Bongani Sam, Fiacre Ntwari and Rushwin Dortley.

“We’re definitely not done in the transfer market because there are some glaring positions in the squad that we need to reinforce,” said Kaizer Jnr.
“We have a young squad at this moment, it’s a squad that needs a bit of experience and a bit of quality, so we’re very mindful of the demands placed on what’s coming next season.
“So, to answer the question, we’re working tirelessly day and night behind the scenes to make sure we reinforce – we’ve gotten a bit of a clear roadmap of what kind of player we need in which positions, so we’re definitely working towards that.”

Motaung Jr also touched on how the Tunisian mentor feels about the current squad at his disposal.
“I think the coach is very well versed, he’s done his research on the league and he’s not just coming now and seeing a bunch of players – him and his staff are consummate professionals, and they’ve done a lot of their homework on our playing staff and what we need,” he added.
“He has a lot of positive feedback, and of course I know he’ll be giving his report now towards the camp that’s done, and we also have a bit of extended time until our next fixture, so it’s going to give the coach more time to have a deeper look at certain players.
“He’s very clear on the kind of player that he wants to be at this team, and he’s very clear on the kind of football he wants to play, and very clear on the level of discipline and mentality he wants to work with.
“So, as it stands right now, it’s definitely a work in progress, but our camp is done and I think a debrief of the way forward is what we’ll now be focussing on, ” he further said.
Chiefs fans will be eager to see how the team has prepared themselves during pre-season when they take on Yanga SC in the Toyota Cup at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Sunday.
The match will commence at 15:00.
