Kaizer Jr Makes Title-Race Claim

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. has insisted the DStv Premiership title race is not over despite Mamelodi Sundowns massive lead, while his side will go all out in the Nedbank Cup.

Downs currently lead the table with 14 points ahead of Richard Bay, while the Amakhosi sit in fourth place 19 points behind the Masandawana.

However, the massive gaps at the top of the log, Kaizer Jr. claimed his club will continue to fight for the title, making reference to their own collapse in 2019/2020.

“This is football. If there is anybody who knows that the league is not won at this stage, it’s us,” he told Newzroom Afrika.

“At one stage we were 15 points clear of Sundowns, at the same mark. Everyone knows what happened in 2019, we lost it with 30 minutes to go.

“So, we will continue fighting, we will continue having hope.”

Kaizer Jr. also insisted that Chiefs will focus on the Nedbank Cup as it could be the quickest chance to end their seven-and-a-half year long trophy drought.

“Nedbank Cup is a dream for all of us. We know that if you win that, the conversations around droughts and everything will be put aside.

“But at the same time we still know that our project is a long-term one. We know that we’ll go with all guns blazing for the Nedbank Cup but at the same time nothing is over.

“The message to the supporters, let’s rally behind the team, let’s give them as much support as we can. This could change in a couple of month.”
