Kaizer Jr Rates Chiefs’ 2024/25 Season So Far

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr admits that they have not quite hit the strides they would’ve anticipated midway through the season but still maintained the project is headed in the right path.

Amakhosi started the 2024/25 campaign on a good note but have had an indifference in results and performance equally with Motaung Jnr saying they are very much dedicated to the project under the tutelage of coach Nasreddine Nabi and his technical staff.

The Glamour Boys picked up a narrow 1-0 victory over Sekhukhune United this past weekend to move fifth even though one would argue that it’s too late to challenge for league honours.

Motaung Jr briefly summed up how things have gone so far this term as they look to improve following a horrendous 2023/24 campaign that saw them endure their worst-ever finish.

“We brought in about seven players, new technical stuff, and I think everyone saw exactly how the season began from a technical perspective,” Kaizer Jr told the media.

“Of course, the season as you know there’s been a lot changes. We’ve always requested for the supporters and the stakeholders to understand.

“Having said all of that, we deliberately took the approach of signing from the back first. Foundation was very important to us and I think it’s kind of a conundrum now looking at that. We’ve conceded the goals that we’ve conceded.

“But the plan has always been the same – to begin with reinforcing the foundation, the defence and then move forward. If you look, we went to sign, I think it was Gaston Sirino as our first offensive player.

“With a plan for identifying each window. We know it’s a very important question that will probably come to us about this window, but looking at having done that, still topping the charts with many of the attacking stats.

“We’ve scored the third highest amount of goals, even with that approach, I think the chances that we created, the chances that they’ve been missing. If we had taken the chances we created and not concede, it’s ifs and buts.

“But at the end of the day, we are very confident of the direction we’re going in and with all those perimeters having been met this season, I think that we could be in a very different position in terms of the league standings.”

When asked if there would be new faces coming in with just two weeks to go before the January transfer window slams shut, Motaung Jnr said: “It’s always a sensitive topic because we would love as a team to be able to be transparent and speak to the people,” ‘Chincha Guluva’ added.

“And I mean our people, the fans, are the most people and stakeholders and we respect them tremendously highly.

“I really just wanna kick away this connotation that the club is not doing anything, the club does not respects its supporters. They are everything to us.

“We do everything for them and it would be foolish for us not to be doing anything in this window. We gotta respect the guys that we do have. It’s in the confidence for them to be able to do their job on the field.

“We are very much aware of the areas that we need to strengthen. We work tirelessly everyday with the technical staff, with the management and committee to make sure we make the right decisions.

“And we have obviously been engaging with many clubs, with many players but it’s very disrespectful to come and speak about other clubs’ players.

“I know people want to know and they wanna know progress. We would love to share that.”
