Kaizer Snr Addresses Current Chiefs Struggles

Kaizer Chiefs chairman Dr Kaizer Motaung has addressed the club’s current struggles, saying they need to rekindle their successful days.

Chiefs have not won silverware in eight seasons and have seen a series of coaches leave the hot seat with results not coming, the latest being Molefi Ntseki who has since been replaced by Cavin Johnson.

The team got eliminated from two cups this season so far, the MTN8 and the Carling Knockout Cup and they currently sit in 10th position on the DStv Premiership log, tied on 14 points with Stellenbosch FC and Sekhukhune United in 11th and 12th places, respectively.

Motaung, who was inducted into the SA Hall of Fame last week, spoke to iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu in the current edition of the newspaper. The Amakhosi chairman said he understands that a lot has changed in the club’s 53 years of existence and the side shouldn’t shy from challenges, while he also hopes players will draw inspiration from his milestone of being a Hall of Fame inductee.

“The meaning of Kaizer Chiefs? It’s a very difficult one to explain but I think it’s obvious that Kaizer Chiefs have to rekindle the success that they have had over the years,” he told iDiski Times.

“Yes at the moment things are not looking very rosy but we understand that life is not the same for 10 years.

“Life will always bring about challenges and challenges are what make life interesting because when you have a challenge facing you, you have to deal with the challenge and move forward. You cannot put your head in the sand and say ‘I’m done’.

“It is a challenge that actually helps you to build your strength and also get inspiration from other sources like your former players and other things.

“Like this one for instance could be an inspiration to the players to say we were not aware that as much as we know that Kaizer Chiefs is a big club but now we have seen something different today. And they have seen some of the pictures of former players.

“It’s an inspiration to say we should do better than those people.”
