Kaze Explains Attacking Subs

Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze has explained why they made a number of attacking substitutions in the second half against Golden Arrows.

Amakhosi picked up a home 1-0 victory over Abafana Bes’thende in the Betway Premiership clash on Tuesday evening at the FNB Stadium.

Aden McCarthy scored the only goal of the match in the first half to hand the Soweto giants maximum points.

Despite holding the lead, Chiefs maintained their aggressive approach in the second half, refreshing their attack with the more offensive changes of Mfundo Vilakazi, Luke Baartman, Thulani Mabaso, and Khanyisa Mayo.

Kaze explained that the team felt in control of the game and opted to increase their attacking intent to prevent Arrows from gaining momentum.

“I believe that we were very good in the game and we were threatening in attack,” said Kaze on SuperSport.

“There was no need to sit back, the best defence is to attack and keep the opponent team busy.”

Kaze also says he believes the win will give them momentum ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup match against Zesco United on Sunday.

“It’s true that the three points of 2026 are going to give us, even the coaches, the calmness to work with less pressure,” he added.

“We hope that this win is going to give us momentum, going into our Sunday game in Confederation Cup.”
