Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze has shared his thoughts on whether the club is capable of challenging for the league title this season.
Amakhosi have endured a decade-long wait for a league title, with their last triumph coming in 2015 under coach Stuart Baxter.
They came close during the 2019/20 season, spending much of the campaign at the top of the table before ultimately finishing second, two points behind champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
Following a positive start to the 2025/26 campaign, Kaze was asked whether his team has what it takes to mount a strong Betway Premiership title challenge.
He said that after failing to finish in the top eight in recent seasons, the team needed to be realistic and focus on staying among the leading teams to put themselves in a strong position to challenge for the league.
“The last time that the team won the league is 2015,” said Kaze. “Last two, three seasons, we were not even in top eight. I think the first thing, to be realistic is to stay in the park of first teams.
“It’s still January, we need to take game by game, stay in that park because everywhere the league is decided in April or beginning of May.
“But we know that we’re going to compete game by game. And now we’re going to focus on our next Confederation Cup game.
“There’s a lot of things that can happen from now on to May. But we know what we want and with the squad we have, we will compete on every game.”
