Former Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cédric Kaze has opened up about the current status of his relationship with his former colleague, Nasreddine Nabi.

The Burundian coach left Amakhosi alongside the rest of the technical team at the conclusion of the past season.

Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef had stepped up to take over the reins when Nabi parted ways with the Glamour Boys in the early stages of the just-ended campaign.

When Nabi penned his farewell message at the time, he noticeably omitted any mention of Kaze or Ben Youssef—a move that strongly suggested their relationship had soured.

However, Kaze maintained that he believes he remains on good terms with Nabi, just as he always has been. Even so, he revealed that the two have not spoken since Nabi left Chiefs early in the season.

“In those kinds of situations when the head coach is removed, there’s always things that happen,” said Kaze during the interview with Robert Marawa on MSW.

“When they choose the assistant coach to take over, most of the times, people think there’s something behind. That’s why relationships get strained.

“It’s unfortunate that, that situation happened. Myself and Nabi have always been in very good terms, we haven’t spoken since that time.

“He’s someone I can pick up the phone and call anytime. That’s why I’m pretty sure he can call me anytime.

“It’s true that that those phone calls never happened since he left the club.”

When asked whether the coach had accused him of betrayal, he stated that Nabi never showed any animosity or spoke of any issues, adding that they worked together well until his departure.

“He never shared anything about that [betrayal accusations], because even the last day of him at the club, we were together, we spent the time together,” he added.

“We said goodbye but there was no any animosity about how he left that time.”
