Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has explained why midfielder Thabo Cele was absent from their previous match against Durban City.
Amakhosi defeated the Citizens 1–0 in a Betway Premiership match at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec on Sunday afternoon, ending their four-match losing streak.
Among the notable players who didn’t make the team that day was Cele, who was absent as a result of a “technical decision”, according to Kaze.
“About Thabo Cele, it’s a technical decision,” said Kaze.
Meanwhile, Ethan Chislett “felt some discomfort” the day before the match and was unable to make the team.
Moreover, Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Aden McCarthy were unavailable, as they were serving one-match suspensions after accumulating their fourth yellow cards against Richards Bay.
Kaze also said they have been unfortunate with a lot of injuries and suspensions; thus, their line-up has been inconsistent.
“Every team needs consistency to get better results. It’s something that maybe people don’t talk enough about,” he added.
“I think that we have been very, very, very unfortunate in terms of injuries and suspensions that have crippled the team and didn’t allow us to have better runs into our lineup.
“I believe that if we don’t have as much injuries, we would have been more consistent than we were.”
