Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana has made an admission about losing the Betway Premiership title to Orlando Pirates.
The Brazilians were targeting their ninth consecutive league title, having won the previous eight in a row. However, the Buccaneers were able to finally dethrone them and end their 14-year league title drought.

Pirates also won the MTN8 and the Carling Knockout Cup, while Masandawana hoisted the Total CAF Champions League after defeating AS FAR Rabat in the final.
Kekana says that while winning the Champions League made up for losing the league, it was still “difficult” to accept losing the title having won it for so many consecutive years.
“It was obviously difficult. We were trying everything in our power to win it again. It just didn’t work out,” said Kekana during the interview with iDiski Times.
“But we were able to accept that and put everything and all our energy in the CAF Champions League, which we were able to take in the end.”
Kekana also stated that their poor start to the season worked against them in defending the league title, while acknowledging other challenges they faced throughout the campaign.
“Considering even how we just started the season, I think it’s not the way we would have loved to start the season,” he added.
“We went through a lot of obstacles, challenges, and at one point, it felt like everything was against us.
“But credit to everyone in the Sundowns family. We never stopped believing; we kept believing. And it finally worked in our favour in the end.”
