Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana has opened up about the frustrations expressed by supporters in recent weeks, acknowledging that the team has not performed at the level fans have come to expect.
The Brazilians have not been at their dominant best this season compared to previous campaigns, where they often showed early signs of marching confidently towards the league title.
In past seasons, Sundowns typically set the pace from the outset, establishing a clear gap at the top of the table. However, this time around, their performances have lacked the same consistency and authority.
They currently sit second in the Betway Premiership standings with 32 points from 15 matches, still within touching distance of the summit but not as commanding as in prior years.

On the continental stage, the pressure is even greater. In the CAF Champions League, Sundowns find themselves in a difficult position, needing nothing less than a victory against MC Alger on Saturday to secure qualification to the next round.
Fans have voiced their frustrations, directing criticism towards head coach Miguel Cardoso and Sporting Director Flemming Berg amid the team’s inconsistent run of results.
Kekana admitted that the players understand the supporters’ concerns, recognising that the team has not reached its usual standards.
However, he emphasised that the squad is working tirelessly to rediscover the dominant Sundowns identity that fans are accustomed to seeing.
“We understand the fans’ frustrations, they obviously expect better from us and we also expect better from ourselves,” said Kekana after the Nedbank Cup draw.
“When I talk about bringing the team back is giving that extra 20% to bring the team back. That’s what we’re working hard towards and yeah and there will be a turnaround soon.
“We know that we have to work hard, we just have to bring the team back. And that’s what I’m going to emphasise and that’s our focus.”
