Kerr: It Was Very Cloak & Dagger

Ahead of their match against Royal AM on Sunday, Swallows coach Dylan Kerr has opened up about the exit of Thabo Matlaba from Swallows.

The former Orlando Pirates defender had spent the past 18 months at the Dube Birds, but left the club in January, going on to join Royal AM.

Kerr, speaking to Sinethemba Makonco on Zibonele FM, has spoken about Matlaba’s exit, and his disappointment at how it was handled.

“It wasn’t a train crash,” Kerr said.

“I just wish he was honest to me and told me the truth, he was asked to go there weeks before.

“And when I asked him when he requested the move, I asked him face to face and he told me a lie and I hate liars.

“At the end of the day we wished him well. I see that it was very cloak and dagger, was disappointed that he never told me when I asked him.

“But he apologized the next day. He did apologize. There’s no train crash. We got Dillon Solomons, he’s come in, played as a right back and he played well.”

Swallows will now be facing their former player in back-to-back matches, and Kerr also expressed the importance of the upcoming fixtures against Royal AM in the Nedbank Cup last 16 and the DStv Premiership.

The Soweto giants are sitting 13th on the log and have the task of escaping the relegation zone and progressing to the next round of Nedbank Cup.

“Both, both they’re two cup finals,” he stressed when asked about the importance of the games.

“So both games are cup finals. So I like winning cup finals. On the back of the results against a very good Sekhukhune team, the three points we had are history now, we’ve got them, now we have to get another three points.

“And then we’ve got face them (Royal AM) in the Nedbank Cup and try and get into the last eight.”
