Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has opened up on a rare feature for striker Tashreeq Morris in their hard-fought win over Sekhukhune United.

The 31-year-old towering marksman made his first Betway Premiership appearance of the season coming on in the last five minutes to score his first goal for the club.

Morris sneaked in at the far post to tap into an empty net from Glody Lilepo’s cross to make it 1-0 for Chiefs in the 86th minute.

Another substitute in Mfundo Vilakazi then converted a 90th minute penalty after Lilepo was brought down in the box to secure maximum points for Amakhosi.

The Glamour Boys have thus made a return to Africa and will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup for the 2026/27 season having tallied 51 points for the first time in six years.

Speaking to the media after the match, Ben Youssef explained that Morris’ introduction was about perfect timing as the striker had been putting in the work at training.

“Morris is one of our players; he’s working very hard in training session,” the Chiefs co-coach said.

“We was waiting until the right moment and I think this was the right moment to introduce him to the team.

“And we discussed with him the importance of this game. Like I said, people are working behind us [behind the scenes] to prepare this player.

“I think I have to say thank you and congratulations to the fitness coach, for coach Dillon, Nathi [in readying Morris].

Chiefs make their next trip to KwaZulu-Natal to take on AmaZulu before concluding the season with a home fixture against Chippa United.
