Khalil – Why Chislett Had To Wait 7 Months For Debut

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has responded to a question about Ethan Chislett’s seven-month wait before making his debut for the club.

Chislett signed for Amakhosi at the beginning of the season on a free transfer after leaving English outfit Port Vale at the end of the previous campaign.

However, he only made his first appearance for Chiefs in their 1–0 defeat to Stellenbosch FC in the Betway Premiership at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening.

At some point during the first round of the campaign, he was said to be battling an injury that delayed his return to action.

The 27-year-old started against Gavin Hunt’s side and played 70 minutes before being substituted for Mduduzi Shabalala.

When asked after the match, why it took  so long to introduce him, Ben Youssef said, “The answer is it took seven months to [prepare] him to be as good as he was today,” said Ben Youssef.

“When we introduced him today, he was one of the best players [on the field].”

In their next fixture, Chiefs will face Orlando Pirates on Saturday, 28 February, in the Soweto derby at the FNB Stadium.
