Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye says Mamelodi Sundowns attacking midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch hasn’t really gelled in at the club since joining them from Orlando Pirates last term.
The former PSL Player of the Season played 10 league matches last season for the defending champions and scored two goals, while netting three times in his four appearances in the Nedbank Cup.
This season he has played four matches across all competitions and had just one assist so far. Lorch got a rare start in Sundowns’ Betway Premiership 2-1 victory over Royal AM on Wednesday, with Khanye claiming the 31-year-old was one of the weak links in the side in that game.
“I don’t think Lorch has ever clicked since joining Sundowns, especially to their style of play,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.
“He always wants to play when they play counter attacks, which means they find him free behind the defence. He should be making combinations like starting his play from inside then bend his run and then be dangerous. But he always wants to stay on the line and create one on ones.
“He becomes predictable and he’s isolated because when they play to him they are not even supporting him because they know he’s going to want to run. That becomes difficult because he wants to do that often while he doesn’t play regularly.
“He lack match fitness and also confidence which essentially gets him out of the game.”
