Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has rated the side’s new signing Khanyisa Mayo‘s debut saying the club needed a striker like him.
Mayo was confirmed as a Chiefs player this month on a season long loan deal from Algerian side CR Belouizdad.
The 27 year old got off the mark on debut in the 1-1 draw against Marumo Gallants at FNB Stadium on Wednesday, though he only lasted 59 minutes. The result saw Amakhosi in third position on the Betway Premiership standings with 14 points in seven games.
Khanye says Mayo is motivated and he felt the former Cape Town City man proved on his debut what he can add to Amakhosi.
“Mayo gave them something other strikers didn’t have before,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.
“I think the player is highly motivated to play for Kaizer Chiefs because of his father. You could see he gave it his all.
“They needed a player who knows how to play up front and by that I mean you need a striker who understands football.
“The boy understands football coming from the SuperSport development, did well at Cape Town City before leaving. I was never worried about his scoring I was about the surrounding.”
