Former Kaizer Chiefs winger has named Rulani Mokwena and Teboho Mokoena as his DStv Coach of the Season and PSL Footballer of the Season picks.
Khanye was speaking to this publication from Tanzania, where is part of the Festac Africa festival, an event that has also partnered with German side Mainz 05 and the Bundesliga.
With the PSL awards set to take place on Sunday evening, the iDiskiTV analyst explained his selections for the two main awards.
“The Coach of the Season is obvious for me, Rulani Mokwena,” he told iDiski Times when asked who between Mokwena, Jose Riveiro and Gavin Hunt deserves the accolade.
“He has won the league. They simply say ‘DStv Premiership Coach of the Season’ and the guy has done very well. He has won the league, he has managed to transform and refresh the team.
“He has brought that spark that the team was lacking. The team is unpredictable, you never know who will play now, he’s playing a lot of different formations also. Players need to fight for their places, to maintain their spots.
“He has managed to do it with a different team, with players that weren’t playing when he was co-coaches with Manqoba Mngqithi. I’m talking about Neo Maema, [Mothobi] Mvala, Cassius [Mailula] and co. He brought new faces and credit to him because he has won the league.
“There is no one else, who won the league. There is a bright future ahead for this coach.”
When discussing the Player of the Season, with Mokoena nominated alongside Ronwen Williams and Monnapule Saleng, Khanye stayed at Chloorkop, saying the midfielder has had an incredible campaign.
“My Player of the Season is Teboho Mokoena,” he added.
“He has won the league, he’s done a lot for Sundowns. He has managed to make the team click in difficult circumstances at Downs.
“Sundowns are not like other teams, the philosophy is totally different. He’s competing with big guns, but he’s managed to establish himself very well.
“Credit to him, for me he’s the player of the Season.”
