iDiski TV analyst Junior Khanye has hailed Mamelodi Sundowns attacking midfielder Lucas Ribeiro saying the Brazilian is the best player in Africa.
Ribeiro was instrumental in Sundowns’ annihilation of Orlando Pirates in the Betway Premiership this past weekend scoring twice and assisting one goal in his side’s 4-1 victory. The win stretched the gap between the sides at the top of the table to nine points and increased Ribeiro‘s goal tally to nine and assists to six in 13 matches.
Khanye was impressed with the 26-year-old’s combination with fellow midfielders on Saturday.
“Complements to Ribeiro for complementing the midfielders,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.
“Football is played in departments they build up from the back and you cannot allow Sundowns to build up and you cannot allow [Teboho] Mokoena to go and fetch the ball. Once he fetches the ball [Marcello] Allende will avail and when he avails Jayden [Adams] complements him.
“Jayden has a forward pass and with his forward pass he finds Ribeiro. Ribeiro then starts and finishes. You see the guy is very arrogant on the ball I think he won the game today.
“He deserved man of the match and Lindo is correct to say he is a contender for Player of the Season.”
Khanye even went further with his praise for the Brazilian, saying he has no match on the continent.
“Lucas Ribeiro has no competition in South Africa. He was doing as he pleased. He is the best player on the African continent. He is Brazilian, but the best player playing in Africa at the moment,” he added.
“Mamelodi Sundowns could have scored more goals. They deserve to win.
“This country doesn’t appreciate this club. They should be the talk of the town every day. There is no title race.”
