Khuzwayo – I Was Like A Side Chick At Chiefs

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo has said that one of the reasons he left the Amakhosi was because he felt like a ‘side chick’.

Khuzwayo was speaking on Extra Time on Gagasi FM, and said that during his time at the club, Itumeleng Khune was always favoured, even when Khuzwayo felt he had done enough to earn the number one jersey.

Khuzwayo spent six seasons at Chiefs, with much of that time on the bench, though he did make 16 starts in the 2014/15 league-winning campaign, with Khune starting only ten times.

“If you remember correctly the last time Chiefs won a trophy it was MTN 8 and then the league, I was in goals,” Khuzwayo was quoted as saying on Extra Time.

“But the supporters were so glued that they still wanted Itu, but the numbers were not adding up.

“He was the favourite and sometimes there was injustice that happened in terms of him getting the number one, when he didn’t work hard to get number one.

“One of the downfalls of Chiefs, which is why I left Chiefs. I was like a side chick at Chiefs knowing very well that he is gonna be there.”
