Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Katlego Mphela is not convinced his former side can reach the top four following the departure of Itumeleng Khune which has opened a leadership gap at the club.
Chiefs have gone a decade without a trophy and last season finished outside the top eight in their history, a campaign which proved to be Khune’s last one at Naturena.

The club brought in Fiacre Ntwari from TS Galaxy as an addition to Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen in the goalkeeping department.
The Rwanda international started the season as first choice keeper then was relegated to the bench and out of the match-day squads
Speaking to iDiski Times writer Lethabo Kganyago in edition 195, ‘Killer’ said the former Bafana Bafana number one should have been replaced with similar quality.
“I also think the leadership is not enough at Kaizer Chiefs,” Mphela told iDiski Times.
“When you have someone like [Itumeleng] Khune that leaves the club, a big personality, an important member of the squad, you need to replace him with the same quality or someone who’s going to step in and have those leadership qualities.

“So, for them, I think that’s a problem, but they need to push this season and see where they end up.
“But obviously they’ll want to be in the top four, so hopefully, they get there, but with the inconsistency, I don’t see them even reaching the top four.”
