Lentjies Not Worried About Poor Chiefs Record

Chippa United coach Kurt Lentjies has insisted that past results between his side and Kaizer Chiefs won’t affect Saturday’s game.

The 37-year-old player-turned-coach believes his team can beat Chiefs this coming weekend despite only managing to collect two wins against Amakhosi in their last eight meetings.

Chippa enter the game on the back of a win over Golden Arrows and a draw with Marumo Gallants, which has raised the mood in the camp.

“We have eight big games, not just the next one [vs Chiefs]. So we prepare for every game like we used to,” Lentjies told media.

“Obviously, the mood is good in the camp. Obviously, the past two games, we picked up four points out of a possible six. So obviously if the mood is not good, but it can get better after the Chiefs game. So doesn’t matter who we play. Like always said, home or away we going to play for three points.

Lentjies also confirmed there are no new injuries, except for the club’s long-term absentees.

“Everyone is healthy and strong, obviously,” he added.

“The injuries that we have was obviously injuries that’s a bit long term for us, obviously, is your Mokhele, your Ramagalelas, your Phakamani Mahlambis. He’s only coming to training now, playing small parts in the training sessions, but other than that everyone is good.”

The young coach, who replaced Gavin Hunt earlier in the campaign, believes statistics and past results won’t matter once the referee blows his whistle on Saturday.

“We want to give every team we play a difficult time. It doesn’t matter who we play, whether it’s Kaizer Chiefs, once the referee starts blowing the whistle, then all statistics and things go out to the window, then it’s just the game for the 95 minutes.

“So it doesn’t matter of past results with Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa has nothing to do with what’s gonna happen on Saturday.”

Chippa will face Chiefs at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday, hoping to collect more points in the relegation race, while the visitors will be keen to collect three points in the race for second place.
