Lentjies Wants To Stop City’s Run

Chippa United’s relegation battle continues against in-form Cape Town City this evening, but Kurt Lentjies believes his team is capable of stopping City’s unbeaten run.

‘The Chillie Boys’ return hope after a goalless draw against Orlando Pirates midweek as they will be facing the high flying City who also have ambitions of finishing inside the top three and securing their CAF spot for next season.

Chippa doesn’t have a good home record against City winning only once in the last five meetings in Gqeberha.

But Kurt Lentjies believes his side is capable of handing the Citizens, who are yet to lose a DStv Premiership game in 2022, their first league defeat of the year. But they need to keep their positive approach to the game.

“The mood in the camp is good, possible six we’ve picked up four, we looking to continue that momentum,” “ Lentjies told the media.

“Obviously tomorrow playing against a team that hasn’t lost this year we are aware of that but we are more than capable of getting three points here so obviously the mood is good , we want to focus on what we want to do and not too much on them and then we will take it from there.”

“Same like before, not as defensive, sitting in a low block like we did against Orlando Pirates, but obviously we have to play a complete game (tomorrow) certain times we gonna have to sit deep because they are a ball playing team, certain times we going to have to play on the break, certain times we gonna have to press high as long as we can control that moment of the game, I think we will definitely get the three points.”

“There are four games left, but let’s focus on tomorrow, we are not out of danger yet, we are aware of that, the whole country is aware of that but let’s see how it goes we know how important the game is. Obviously after the results of (Monday) there’s a bit more pressure but the guys are cool under pressure”.

The Eastern Cape-based side is now in 12th place, with 26 points just three points away from the promotion/relegation playoff spot.
