Kaizer Chiefs moved fifth on the Betway Premiership standings following a hard-fought 1-0 win over Durban City at FNB Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

With Aden McCarthy and Sibongiseni Mthethwa suspended, Amakhosi rang four changes to their starting lineup.

Gaston Sirino, Asanele Velebayi, Ethan Chislett and Flavio Silva all dropped to the bench after their 1-0 defeat to Richards Bay last week with Inacio Miguel returning from injury while Siphesihle Ndlovu, Mduduzi Shabalala, Glody Lilepo, Ashley Du Preez and Wandile Duba also getting nods.

The first period did not really offer much on the attacking front with both teams struggling to threaten each other.

Shabalala got the game’s first shot on target in the 38th minute but it failed to trouble Darren Keet who collected easily.

The second period saw a more resilient Chiefs side who had to wait till close to 70 minutes to finally break the deadlock.

Glody Lilepo collected a shot on the edge of the box from Mfundo Vilakazi’s cross before placing it into the top corner to make it 1-0.

The Congolese winger had a chance to make it a brace a minute later but skied his effort into the stands with only Keet to beat.

City piled a siege on the Chiefs defence and nearly snatched a leveller in added time, but the home side defended with everything to complete a league double over the KZN outfit.
