Lorch Opens Up On Sundowns Move

Following his surprise move to Mamelodi Sundowns, attacker Thembinkosi Lorch has revealed that he joined the Tshwane giants to fulfil his dream of clinching the DStv Premiership and the CAF Champions League titles.

Lorch, 30, raised a few eyebrows when he made the switch from Orlando Pirates to their cross-city rivals, becoming the fourth player to arrive at Chloorkop during the January transfer window under now-departed head coach Rulani Mokwena.

The 2018/19 PSL Footballer of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season award winner had a chat with former Sundowns midfielders Hlompho Kekana and Tiyani Mabunda on why he made the move to Masandawana.

“The gents have welcomed me well into the team and they’ve made me feel at home,” Lorch said on the Pitchside Podcast.

“Ja, so far, I’m so happy. I’m happy like I’ve said on the interview with you [Hlompho Kekana] that I came to Sundowns knowing what I want.

“The first thing I wanted to win was the league and the [CAF] Champions League. The one thing that I wanted to win was the Champions League.”

Lorch also touched on why it has been so easy to fit in like a glove since switching Soweto for Tshwane.

“When I was at [Orlando] Pirates, I was following the guys at Sundowns and how they were doing things. The brotherhood that they have you see. The way they love each other,” he added.

“And I already saw myself as being part of the team, so it was easy for me to gel with the gents.”

In conclusion, Lorch mentioned one thing he will always be proud of when it comes to himself.

“I’m still relevant and I still work hard. And I’m happy to be at Mamelodi Sundowns,” he stated.

“It’s a team that I’ve loved for a long time from far. The competition from the team is there since back then. Champions League every season, so yeah that’s the one thing that makes me proud – to join a team like Mamelodi Sundowns.

‘Nyoso’ netted six goals, providing three assists in 20 appearances for the defending league champions since moving from Mayfair.
