Orlando Pirates new signing Ghampani Lungu has opened up about his move to the club and how he has adapted since joining ahead of the new season.
The Zambian utility player was among the more surprising additions to the Buccaneers, having spent eight years in the PSL with SuperSport United, who later became Siwelele.
Lungu has made an impressive start to life at Pirates, scoring two crucial goals already — the winner against Durban City in the MTN8 quarter-final before finding the net in the 3-0 league win against Chippa United.
The 27-year-old insists it was no surprise that Pirates showed interest in him, admitting that it felt good to learn that one of the country’s biggest clubs wanted to sign him.
“It wasn’t really a surprise, but it was a boost to know that a big club was talking to me and wanting me to add to their club,” Lungu told Orlandopiratesfc.com.
“It was a really good thing. Really felt good.”
He revealed that his adaptation at the club has been smooth, with his familiarity with most of the players in the squad making the transition much easier.
“I’ve been in the league for the past eight years,” he added.
“I know most of the players. Even some of the players that are here, I’ve played with some of them back at SuperSport and stuff like that.
“The players I came with from Siwelele are also here. That’s why I think I could adapt easily. I think the experience of being in the whole football industry has played a big part in it.”
