Orlando Pirates talisman Tshegofatso Mabasa admits his hattrick was a relief and revealed two global superstars that’s inspiring him to reach greater heights.
Mabasa became the first player to score a hat-trick in the Betway Premiership in an 8-1 win against Gallants taking his goal tally to seven goals in all competitions this seas.
He is two goals behind Iqraam Rayners in the Golden Boot race with four goals, which is also level with his teammate Evidence Makgopa.
“It’s a sense of relief, the last time I scored in the league was the first game of the season against Chippa, for me to get an opportunity today and get three, it just shows the amount of support I have been getting from the rest of the team,” Mabasa said.
“They have really been rallying behind me and I can only appreciate that and say thank you to them and the technical team as well, they have shown faith in me and haven’t doubted me, I’m just happy that I could deliver [against Gallants].”
On remaining motivated during a dry spell he said he’s inspired by the greats of the modern era.
“Every striker in the world of football wants to score goals, to walk away with three is a really special feeling for me,” Mabasa said.
“In terms of motivation, like I said every striker in the world of football wants to score goals that is what keeps me going.
“I want to improve my game watching the likes of Erling Haaland, and Harry Kane – world-famous strikers, how they do things it motivates me as a player to keep pushing and wanting more.”
