Orlando Pirates forward Ndumiso Mabena has praised the impact of former Buccaneers Striker’s Coach Scott Chickelday
The Englishman was appointed in the beginning of January and stayed on for a month, with the Buccaneers scoring 10 goals in the first three games after he arrived in South Africa.
Chickelday told iDiski Times in an exclusive interview that much of the praise must go to head coach Jose Riveiro and that he could imagine to return to the Buccaneers in future.
Mabena now spoke highly about Chickelday and mentioned that the work he did at the club helped them a lot and that they are still benefiting from certain aspects he brought to the club.
“He added a lot of value, especially in the attacking third. I think all the goals that we scored when he was around here, it’s what we were doing at training,” Mabena said.
“So set-pieces, the finishing… Look at Kermit Erasmus’ first goal in the league. It’s what we are doing at training. It’s those drills that we do at training.
“We’re happy that when he was still here and now that he’s gone we’re still continuing scoring. So we’ve learnt a lot from him.”
The former Royal AM striker also insisted that one month was sufficient for Chickelday to leave a lasting impact on the squad.
“I think as matured as we are, a month was enough for us because we’re still continuing to score,” he added.
“So we haven’t forgotten what we’ve learnt from him. So we still scoring goals.”
