Maboe On Petersen’s Form

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebohang Maboe has spoken glowingly about goalkeeper Brandon Petersen, applauding his consistent strong performances in recent months.

Last season, Petersen was largely on the fringes at Amakhosi, managing just five appearances across all competitions — four in the Betway Premiership and one in the Nedbank Cup.

A shock inclusion in the Nedbank Cup final proved to be a turning point, as he helped Chiefs defeat Orlando Pirates to secure the trophy.

Now firmly established as the club’s first choice, Petersen has been outstanding this season, making 23 appearances and keeping 15 clean sheets.

Maboe says it gives them confidence to play knowing that they have a man to trust between the posts.

“He gives us a lot of confidence because it’s a football game, you’re bound to make mistakes but knowing that you have a keeper of his quality behind, that’s someone you can trust,” said Maboe.

“He’s someone you can believe in.”

He believes that in the league they are the most solid team defensively, including in the goalkeeping department.

“I think if you look at the league, we’re number one in terms of clean-sheets and defence,” he added.

“So, I think it’s a team effort, we all know that we have to protect our keeper. Yeah, I think it’s a team effort.”
