With Bafana Bafana failing to qualify to the Africa Cup of Nations, Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lebohang Maboe has revealed his favourite team in the tournament.
With Senegal beating Zimbabwe in their opener at Bafoussam Omnisport Stadium Kouekong stadium on Monday, Maboe says they have what it takes to become the champions.
The Lions of Terenga have played in the tournament on 16 occasions – but they have never lifted the trophy, their best finish being runners-up in 2019 when they lost to Algeria.
However, Maboe has backed them and believes that the quality of players in the squad, that includes Liverpool star Sadio Mane, can see them crowned the champions of Africa
“I think I will give it to Senegal, with the quality they have, they are my favourites to lift the trophy,” Maboe told Sundowns media department.
“They are my favourites just from seeing how they were able to win their games.
“Even recently watching them in their World Cup Qualifiers, just seeing the amount of depth and quality that they have, so they are my favourites.
“At the same time we can’t look past countries like Nigeria, who probably have got the same amount of quality in their team, the likes of the Ivory Coast, Morocco, and Algeria.”
