Royal AM coach John Maduka feels his side is getting “better and better”, as they recorded their second league win on the trot when they beat a tough Chippa United in an entertaining 3-2 match at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday.
Maduka showed Morgan Mammila that he is a wily old coach in this game, despite Craig Martin having put the home side ahead in the 24th minute.
But Royal AM stung back through goals by Mfundo Thikazi (34) and Ruzaigh Gamildien (52) before Chippa equalised when Justice Chabalala was unmarked to head home four minutes later.
But Samuel Manganyi scored the winner in the 66th minute to all but take the three points, with Royal AM registering their second win of the season after defeating TS Galaxy over the weekend.
As this was Royal AM’s second win, they climbed up to ninth place on the DStv Premiership table with seven points after five matches.
“We are getting better and better,” said Maduka.
“It is good to win two games in a row, especially at how we started the season, so we are happy that we managed to get three points. But it was not an easy game, because Chippa is a good team and they have a very good coach as well.
“We are very happy that we won the game.”
It was just Royal AM’s seventh league win away in the club’s almost three seasons and it was a record that Maduka is keen to correct.
“A win like this absolutely gives us confidence, starting to believe in ourselves that it doesn’t matter where we play,” said Maduka.
“Yes we struggled a lot last season as we were not winning more games away from home.
“This is a very good sign for us and we need to just continue doing that. We know for us to win away from home we have to work hard just like we did. So this gives confidence going forward.”
Royal AM, as it is MTN8 semi-finals weekend followed by the FIFA break, will next be in action when they visit Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on 16 September (20:00).
