Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Lehlohonolo Majoro says he sees a bit of himself in young attacker Wandile Duba because of his resilience.
Duba, a product of the Chiefs development, has been a key attacking player for Amakhosi this season despite their ups and downs however his campaign was interrupted by injuries.
The 20-year-old has played 21 matches for Chiefs across all competitions this season and has five goals in the league and three assists though his progress was halted by injury as he only returned to league action late in March.
‘Major’ spoke to iDiski Times writer Lethabo Kganyago in edition 202 of the newspaper where he sang Duba praises saying he doesn’t understand why people confuse the youngster’s confidence for arrogance.
“It’s [Wandile] Duba,” Majoro told iDiski Times.
“Him being injured really affected Kaizer Chiefs. Duba is one player that I see myself in because he’s resilient. He has a never-say-die attitude. His confidence is often mistaken as attitude or arrogance. I don’t understand because if you know what you are capable of doing, people are quick to say, you are arrogant, or he thinks that ‘he’s all that’.
“For a youngster to have such confidence and not only score goals but also create and when the team needs him to go defend, he goes all the way to defend and still attack. Remember, Duba, we knew him as a striker, but like now, Coach [Nasreddine] Nabi is playing him more on the sides where he’s required to go forward and come back.
“His application of himself within that position has really inspired me, and he’s one player that I say at Kaizer Chiefs kudos to him.”
