Former Orlando Pirates coach-turned-agent Mike Makaab has revealed which Kaizer Chiefs starting XI he’d pick for Saturday’s Soweto Derby.
Makaab led Pirates to the league title in 1994 and started the club’s CAF Champions League winning-campaign in 1995 on the sidelines has long left the dugout and become a player agent.
However, he still proves his tactical know-how on his weekly radio show alongside Simtho Dladla on Gagasi FM.
This week, the duo discussed the upcoming Soweto Derby, where Makaab believes his former side will come out on top and collect three points.
He also gave insight into the starting XI he would pick, if he was in the shoes of under-pressure Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane.
Makaab says he’d select a double pivot to shield the Amakhosi defence, picking Happy Mashiane and Yusuf Maart, whose wonder goal decided the reverse fixture in favour of the Glamour Boys, ahead of a four-man backline.
Makaab’s Chiefs XI: Petersen – Ngezana, Kwinika, Dove, Hlanti – Mashiane, Maart – Shabalala, Du Preez, Dolly – Saile.
The Derby will kick off at 15:30 at FNB Stadium on Saturday, with Pirates entering the game three points ahead of their Soweto rivals.
However, the Buccaneers have lost the last four successive league derbies against Chiefs and another defeat could see Zwane’s side level Pirates on points.
