Cape Town City attacking midfielder Fortune Makaringe has spoken out about players taking some accountability following the sacking of Eric Tinkler as head coach.
The club mutually parted ways with Tinkler after three seasons due to inconsistency of results in this current campaign. The Citizens moved swiftly to appoint former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates mentor Mushin Ertugral who has since collected six points so far from both Soweto giants.
Makaringe, who moved to City in June last year, told reporters after the draw of this season’s Nedbank Cup, that players admit to playing a part in the coach leaving however it wasn’t intentional as they cannot control outcomes as they always put in the effort.
“I think it’s always up to us to own to that and be accountable for anything that happened within the club and all of those things because at the end of the day we are the ones who are playing,” said Makaringe.
“As much as the gents have been putting in the work you can’t fault effort, you can’t fault their work ethic and everything else. It’s just that you can never predict results. Results will always come however they come. The most important thing is to stick to what you have been doing well.
“And that’s what coach Mushin [Ertugral] came in and emphasised, giving that motivation and encouragement, continue doing what you have been doing right.

“Of course, he’s always going to come in with his experience and his observation in terms of where he needs to adjust and stuff and that has been paying off.”
