Orlando Pirates utility Fortune Makaringe opened up about his new role at the club.
Makaringe joined Pirates as a midfielder from Maritzburg United and has spent most of his time at Bucs playing as a midfielder.
The 30-year-old made 19 appearances last season in all competitions. Competition in the midfield increased this campaign when Pirates signed the likes of Patrick Maswanganyi and Siphelo Baloni.
Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro introduced Makaringe in his new role in a clash against Richards Bay where he played as a right-centre-back alongside Thapelo Xoki and Olisah Ndah.
Against Moroka Swallows and TS Galaxy he retained his right-centre-back role and helped the club to keep their consecutive clean sheets.
Speaking with the media he mentioned that there was never a specific position when he signed for the club.
“A very interesting role indeed, well for me it’s just playing football and playing for the team,” he said.
“I’ll be honest with you when my employer employed me they didn’t tell me I was coming to play a certain position. They employed an employee who was gonna be ready to work in the team, so for me playing in that position it’s not unfamiliar.
“We’ve prepared for a long time ago and I’ve always been prepared to play anywhere so it was just me coming in and play.
The former Maritzburg United midfielder praised his teammates stating that they made it even more easier for him to adapt in that position.
“It’s a very complicated spot when it’s played by people who make football very difficult but lucky for me I play with players that understand the game even better,” he added
“So I knew very well that it wouldn’t be much of a train smash for me coming in because I’m playing with people who understand the game and more of about me going in applying myself in a proper way.”
