Sekhukhune United winger Keletso Makgalwa says his exploits from the previous season were not a fluke and he is capable of repeating if not bettering it.
Makgalwa was one of the standout players helping Babina Noko to a fourth-place finish contributing six goals and 11 assists. This culminated in the 28-year-old receiving two end of the season award nominations including Player of the Season which was eventually won by Lucas Ribeiro.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns man spoke to iDiski Times journalist Lethabo Kganyago in edition 225 of the newspaper where he reflected on the nominations and how he had set out from the start of the previous term to compete for at least one accolade.
“I’d say I was nervous, and I was so happy, especially to get recognised from the PSL after the hard work,” Makgalwa told iDiski Times.
“I think I have been working very hard, and what I have achieved last season, it was not a fluke because since I came back to the PSL, I told myself that I need to compete for at least one award. I was blessed with two, which I’m so grateful for and also to thank the coach, the previous coaches, coach [Lehlohonolo] Seema and coach Eric as well, the management of the team and the players who helped me to reach my goal and everyone involved.”
Makgalwa further said he has been challenged by his coach Eric Tinkler to shift his game to another gear this season as now people are aware of what the player is capable of.
“Yes, for me it is challenge accepted, and you know every team now is gunning for me,” added Makgalwa.
“That’s what he [Tinkler] also told me, and I need to step up my game. If I was working hard last season, now I have to work extra hard to find solutions and it’s something that I’m working on at this present time.
“I wouldn’t say I’m at my peak at this point in time since the season has started, but I’m getting there, surely, slowly. I think everything is working out with the help of the coaches and the players. I think it’s coming together now.”
