Makhanya Confirms Bucs DDC Star Promoted To First Team

Orlando Pirates DStv Diski Challenge coach Joseph Makhanya has confirmed that Jabulani Mokone has been promoted to the first team.

Pirates suffered their second loss in three matches after going 1-0 down to Mamelodi Sundowns with a late goal from Onela Rulwana over the weekend, with Mokone once again a noticeable absentee from the team.

The versatile defender has been out injured after suffering an injury in a DDC clash against Lamontville Golden Arrows.

‘JB’, as he is affectionally known, was part of the Carling Black Label All Star team that beat Stellenbosch FC to clinch the Carling Black Cup at Peter Mokaba Stadium in January.

Makhanya confirmed that the player’s performances didn’t go unnoticed and through his hard work Mokone has been promoted to the senior side.

“He is spending time with first team,” Makhanya told Asidlali.

“We feeling like he has done enough to be given a chance at first team so we hoping that he will continue learning so that he can be a better player.

“So yes he has been promoted.”

The 18-year-old joins the likes of Relebohile Mofokeng, who also came through the Buccaneers DDC team.
