Mammila Explains Twitter Search For Left-Back

Chippa United head coach Morgan Mammila has insisted that taking their search for a new left-back to twitter was a massive success for the club.

Chippa shocked everyone in the industry, especially at the professional level, where scouting is expected to be a key driver, by going online and announcing their search for a left-back.

Their post read: ”Chippa United is excited to announce that we are on the lookout for an exceptional left back to join our esteemed team.”

They went further to list the qualities of the player they were searching for: “Height: Ideal above 1.8 meters, Age 19-28, Experience: Background in top flight football, Playing style: Box to Box capabilities. Additionally, if the player is a foreigner, he must at least have 10 international caps for his country.”

Whilst this exposed most Premier Soccer League clubs’ lack of scouting programmes and networks, Mammila explains that this was of huge help to their plans.

“I’m happy with the team that I have now,” Mammila said during the launch of the new DStv Premiership campaign.

“I was only looking at one position, which is left-back that we even advertised that we’re looking for a left-back and to be honest with you the response was out of this world.

“We managed to get a quality left-back.”

iDiski Times has also learnt that the Eastern Cape side’s search saw them getting a lot of calls from agents around the continent and outside Africa as well. And they had a number of internationals who were fitting the profile they were looking for, who were offered to them.

While a club insider told this publication that “within two days we found the perfect candidate or candidates we were looking for,” Mammila also insisted their tweet got them more players than what a scout could’ve done.

“Let’s be honest, a scout can’t be all over Africa, can’t be all over the world, but one tweet can be all over Africa,” he added.

“That one tweet managed to attract over 500 quality left-backs, unlike if it was a scout he would only be able to go to Tanzania, Zambia and others.

“But with that one tweet we managed to be allover Africa, as I said.”
